Remote

This is an ever growing request.  It can be  a fraction of  the cost of an on site inspection.  For pre-purchase, it is invaluable as it allows a scan of numerous vessels with a fast turnaround. For due diligence, one may want a state of the nation report on an entire fleet or an entire company’s ships.
One may want to know how others view your business or a specific asset or asset group.

Even worst case, they form a diligent pre-inspection step narrowing down, which questions to ask and where to look first, when onboard to guide even other surveyor’s or your own ships’ staff. Subscription-based data-service providers have  grown in the past years.
However it remains just that –  data.  Further, it is unlikely that on-site inspections can be fully automated due to the shapes, structure and quantity of shipboard spaces. Thus for a full  picture,  its about meeting the onboard team, asking, listening, climbing, crawling, seeing and hearing.

What can be done is with experience and objectivity,  piecing together the data out there, analysing specific  ship’s/Manager’s  reports  on condition and expenditure, and adding in Class-records inspections.  When the ship´s or Manager’s reports are of a good quality, then that added to the factual available data can currently achieve a report with up to 80% in value of an on-site inspection and has became a speciality in the past years.
